TRANSFER OF INFORMATION

I only know my Dad through 2nd to 3rd hand stories and old photos. When stories are passed down from generation to generation details are forgotten as well as embellishments are added. Much like the analog process of photography, the transferal of information is never perfect. Sorting through other people’s narratives creates a lot of residual emotional debris. I have to pick through these pieces to form my own image of who he was, while trying to identify what parts are within me.

To conceptually show how narratives change over time, through the transfer of information, I am painting the negative versions of previous works. Putting them side by side forms a new composition and engages the viewer to examine them as individuals pieces and as a new whole.
